Engagement Session at the Ballpark

Couple Poses in Dugout

When the engaged couple are Phillies fans, you shoot their engagement pictures at the ballpark.

Whenever doing an engagement session, the first thing I ask a bride and groom is where they met, or do they have a special place to them. Most times they’ll say college, or a park or a restaurant or a town, etc… The idea here is to personalize their session to them specifically. What matters to them? What is their favorite location as a couple? What might define them if there is a place like that in their lives?

Couple Shares a Moment in Dugout

Every now and again they’ll mention a ballpark. I’ve had couples ask to shoot at Longwood Gardens, The Art Museum, Valley Forge Park, Citizens Bank Park and Grounds for Sculpture to name a few.

While most locations are easy to pull off, a place like Citizens Bank Park calls for a bit more logistical issues. First, you have to get permission from the owner, The Phillies. Second, you have to pay a fee for renting the space. And you have to sign a bunch of paperwork. They have to have an escort available to you to take you from location to location. You can not go on the actual playing field, but everything else is open to you. Liability insurance is required as well. Not that you’ll need it, but you never know. Better to be safe than sorry. Some place just require a donation for entrance.

You’ll find that most places are open to allowing use of their locations, but be prepared to cover the rental fee. Some might not be, but all you have to do is ask. They can either say no or yes, and you won’t know unless you ask first. Some are free and some are not.

Personally, I love finding locations where no one has done an engagement session or even though of it yet. Let’s be the first to shoot at (fill in the blank).
